PROVIDING SAFE PASSAGE

The goal of this project was to ensure vehicles would have safe passage on the causeway to the Pointe Mouillee Confined Disposal Facility (CDF) in Monroe County, Michigan. The scope of this project included:

  • Design and installation of a temporary cofferdam
  • Dewatering
  • Excavation and removal of existing corrugated metal pipes
  • Installation of replacement reinforced concrete pipes
  • Vegetation removal
  • Rodent barrier installation along 450 feet of the perimeter dike
  • Maintenance grading work

Our work provided a safe and stable solution to support maintenance on the area for years to come.

UPGRADING THE SITE

Our work at Point Mouillee required several large-scale tasks. We removed the existing four 72” corrugated metal pipes and replaced them with 60” reinforced concrete pipes. These also featured flared end sections on one side and a connection to the existing weir on the other.

The rodent barrier we installed consists of a stainless-steel mat that reaches four feet below and eight feet above the toe of the dike. We installed this one foot below the finished grade, and we added a clay wedge that extends twelve feet up the dike from the existing toe. What can we say? Our team is nothing if not thorough!
