In September of 2016, we acquired 990 Oakland Boulevard and the two adjacent properties in the Detroit Hope Village neighborhood. After relocating there in November we almost immediately began renovating the facility. Rather than tear down the dilapidated building and start over, it was important to us to stay faithful to the original bones of the building, maintaining its structure and facade. Organizations in the area are focused on making the 100 or so blocks that make up Hope Village a safe, strong, and nurturing neighborhood and we saw it as one of the next big areas to get revitalized.

The renovation included everything from a completely new roof, HVAC and electrical to new windows, along with a new security fence and cameras. We are completing the work in phases so our team can occupy the building during construction, we recently completed phase 1 and expect that the second and final phase should be complete by March 1st. Stay tuned for open house details.

When renovating older buildings, time needs to be set aside for environmental work. The building had to be cleared of asbestos and a fuel tank in the lot outside needed to be removed and then the surrounding contaminated soil was remediated.

Helping rebuild Detroit is a major focus of our company and soon after moving in we participated in an alley cleanup with a neighboring organization and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 324.

We are excited to be a part of yet another growing neighborhood in the “Comeback City” and look forward to showing clients, friends, partners and vendors our new space.
